# Resend Alternatives (2026)

> The best Resend alternatives in 2026: Amazon SES, Postmark, Mailgun and SendGrid for transactional email, and a self-hosted option that sends transactional and marketing email from one install. Prices and trade-offs compared.

Resend is a developer-first email API with a clean SDK and React Email support. People look for alternatives for two reasons. Some want a lower price per email as volume grows. Others want their marketing email in the same place as their transactional email, without a second plan priced by contacts.

> **Conflict of interest:** we make Broadcast, one of the options below. Broadcast isn't a hosted email API. It is self-hosted software that sends through one of the services listed here.

## Resend alternatives compared

Prices from each provider's pricing page, September 2026. See the full [email API pricing comparison](/compare/ses-vs-postmark-vs-mailgun).

| Service | 100,000 emails a month | Pick it when |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Resend | $35 on Pro | You want the nicest developer experience and React Email |
| [Amazon SES](https://sendbroadcast.net/compare/amazon-ses-pricing) | $10 | Price per email matters most |
| Postmark | From $15 for 10,000, rising with volume | You want fast delivery and clear logs, with separate streams for broadcasts |
| [Mailgun](https://sendbroadcast.net/compare/mailgun-alternative) | $90 on Scale, with a dedicated IP | You want an EU region and inbound routing |
| [SendGrid](https://sendbroadcast.net/compare/sendgrid-alternative) | $29.95 on Essentials | You already use Twilio |
| Broadcast | $250 once, plus your sending service | You want transactional and marketing email from one install you own |

## Transactional and marketing in one place

Resend sells marketing email as a separate product, priced by contacts: free for 1,000, then from $40 a month for 5,000 up to $650 for 150,000. Your transactional API plan is billed on top.

Broadcast does both from one self-hosted install. Your app sends password resets, receipts and notifications through the [transactional email API](/docs/api-transactional-email), with templates and idempotency keys so a retried request never sends twice. The same install runs your newsletters, sequences and segments. Everything goes out through the sending service you choose, so you pay Amazon SES or Postmark prices for both.

There is no per-contact price for the marketing side. See [sending transactional and marketing email from one install](/how-to/transactional-and-marketing-email) for how the two stay separate, including unsubscribes that apply to marketing but never block a password reset.

## When Resend is still the right choice

If you only send transactional email, want a hosted API with nothing to run, and value the SDK and React Email workflow, Resend is hard to beat at low volume. Its free plan covers 3,000 emails a month.

## What it costs

For an app sending 100,000 transactional emails a month and a weekly newsletter to 10,000 subscribers:

- **Resend:** $35 a month for transactional on Pro, plus a marketing plan priced by contacts.
- **Broadcast with Amazon SES:** $250 once, then about $14 a month in SES fees for all 140,000 emails, plus a few dollars for the server.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the cheapest Resend alternative?

Amazon SES, at $0.10 per 1,000 emails. It has no SDK polish or dashboard of its own, which is why many teams put a tool on top of it.

### Can Broadcast replace Resend?

For many apps, yes: it has a transactional email API with templates and idempotent sends, and it adds marketing email. It is self-hosted, so you run the server, and it sends through a service like SES or Postmark instead of its own infrastructure.
