Email verification email template

Ask a new user to confirm their email address with one button, a plain-text fallback link and a clear reason to click.

Free. No signup. Opens the builder in a new tab with this template loaded; nothing is uploaded.

A verification email proves that the person who signed up owns the address. Until they click, you should not send them anything else, so this email has one job and the template is built around it.

It says why the click matters, gives a button and a plain-text link, and tells the reader what to do if they never signed up. The same layout works for a new account, a changed email address and a double opt-in newsletter confirmation.

What this email must include

  • A button that confirms the address, and the same link as plain text.
  • One sentence on why: the account is not active, or the newsletter will not arrive, until they confirm.
  • How long the link stays valid and how to get a new one.
  • A line for people who did not sign up, so a mistyped address leads to an ignored email instead of a spam complaint.

Confirm your email address

One click and your Example Co account is ready.

Please verify your email

Your account is waiting. The link works for 24 hours.

One more step to finish signing up

Confirm your address so we can send your first issue.

When to send it

Send it immediately after signup, or after someone changes the address on their account. The reader is usually still on your site, waiting for it.

If nobody clicks after a day, one reminder is reasonable. After that, stop and delete the unconfirmed address. Addresses that never confirm are where typos, fake signups and spam traps hide.

Deliverability and security notes

Verification is the cheapest list hygiene there is. It keeps typos, fake signups and other people's addresses off your list before they can bounce or complain.

Keep marketing out of this email. Its content is the confirmation and nothing else, which keeps it a transactional message.

Bots fill signup forms with real people's addresses. Those people did not ask for your email, so make the "did not sign up" line easy to see, and never resend without a new request.

Tips for using it

  • On the "check your inbox" page, show the address you sent to, so people can spot a typo and fix it.
  • Offer a resend button on that page, with a rate limit.
  • Keep the button on the first screen of the email. One heading and one sentence above it is enough.
